About the Role:

Council is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Disaster Recovery Coordinator to join the Disaster Management team.

This pivotal role is responsible for coordinating the recovery efforts following disasters, ensuring the community, council, and other stakeholders can return to normalcy as quickly as possible. The Disaster Recovery Coordinator will manage the recovery process, including project management of resources, developing recovery plans, and liaising with key agencies and the community.

This position is vital in ensuring a smooth transition from disaster response to recovery.

Primary Objectives:

• Coordinate off season recovery preparedness activities to support effective response of the Local Disaster Recovery Committee and effectively design, coordinate and project manage the scale and complexity of recovery needs.
• In an activation, coordinate the disaster recovery operations for the region in accordance with the Local Disaster Recovery Sub-Plan and report regularly Local Disaster Recovery Committee and Local Disaster Management Group
about disaster recovery operations.
• Embed broader project management capability within council, focused solely on the recovery effort to enable a smoother transition to recovery for council and the community.
• Work closely with all departments to understand their critical functions, identify potential risks, and design mitigation strategies.

Essential Criteria:

• Relevant qualifications and/or experience in disaster recovery, project management, or emergency management.
• Current Queensland Driver’s open licence.
• Proficiency in disaster management principles, particularly in community relief and recovery.
• In-depth understanding of the Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements (QDMA).
• Strong communication and liaison skills to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including vulnerable community members.
