Primary Objective

The Program Manager, Youth and Communities, is responsible for planning and coordinating the delivery of accessible youth sport, recreation, and community safety services in alignment with Central Desert Regional Council's strategic and regional plans, policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.

About Us

Central Desert Regional Council is a local government authority covering an area of over 282,000 square kilometers. The Council provides a range of services in 12 communities to the north of Alice Springs, including Lajamanu, Ti Tree, Wilora, Nturiya, Pmara Jutunta, Willowra, Laramba, Nyirripi, Yuelamu, Atitjere, Engawala, and Yuendumu, as well as several homelands and outstations. The Central Desert area is considered remote and disadvantaged, with over 80% of the population being Aboriginal.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Lead the strategic and sustainable development of Youth and Community Services to promote safe and healthy lifestyles within designated communities.
  2. Engage with local communities and stakeholders to plan, design, implement, and monitor strategies for youth engagement in sports and recreational activities.
  3. Support community safety initiatives, including Community Safety Patrols, mediation, and justice services, to foster community harmony through early intervention and prevention mechanisms.
  4. Collaborate with Coordinators and Team Leaders to develop and coordinate training and professional development for Youth and Communities employees.
  5. Foster strong community partnerships and build capacity through a whole-of-government approach to youth and community safety services.
  6. Ensure compliance with relevant policies, legislation, funding agreements, and program contracts, while managing and reporting on these requirements.
  7. Provide expert advice on program-specific issues, including investigations and recommendations for service improvements and efficiencies.
  8. Supervise, coach, and mentor the team to deliver quality services, while promoting adherence to Council policies and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) obligations.
  9. Deliver detailed, regular reports and updates to the Regional Manager, addressing program status, risks, and contingencies.
