Council are seeking driven, friendly, passionate and confident individuals, to join our team as a Diesel Fitter Apprentice. You will gain hands-on experience while completing a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade.
Based at either Chinchilla or Miles, the successful applicant will:
- Learn and develop trade skills, and assist and support Council's Fleet and Resources Team in accordance with standard operating procedures;
- Operate various types of mechanical or electrical hand tools and equipment used in either a mechanical or welding environment; and
- Develop skills that will either be focused on the diagnosing, repairing and maintaining of Council equipment such as loaders, graders, rollers, backhoes and trucks along with providing workshop services across the region.
About yourself
The successful applicant will have:
- Ability to complete a Nationally Recognised Qualification (Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade) within 4 years;
- Year 12 Certificate in Education or be able to demonstrate equivalent related experience;
- Sound level of literacy and numeracy skills;
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment to work towards and achieve team objectives; and
- Ability to multi-task while maintaining high attention to detail.

To apply for an apprenticeship/traineeship with Council, it is recommended you:
- Be above the age of 15;
- Be able to meet citizen, residency and Visa requirements to undertake a traineeship or apprenticeship; and
- Do not have a qualification that is equal to or higher than the qualification in the same field as your traineeship or apprenticeship.
You must be available to attend an interview towards the end of 2024.
