The Role:

Rowan View Children’s Centre was selected by the Department of Education (VIC) as one of two sites in Victoria delivering the Safe Haven program. Our organisation is working with Parkville Institute to conduct a replication of the Early Years Education Program. EYEP was initiated by Kids First, previously the

Children’s Protection Society (CPS), an independent not-for-profit child and family services organisation based in the north-east of Melbourne which was founded in 1896. The program was designed and implemented by CPS in collaboration with Associate Professor Brigid Jordan and Dr Anne Kennedy. Rowan View Children’s Centre will deliver Safe Haven alongside 3- and 4-year-old Kindergarten.

The Safe Haven program is a high-quality childcare program designed around a set of core integrated elements that work in synergy to redress the negative impacts of toxic stress on children’s learning and development.  Results from the program’s randomised control trial indicate its effectiveness in improving children’s social, emotional and cognitive development after three years of participation in the Safe Haven program.

The Safe Haven program aims to provide children with 75% of their daily nutritional requirements during the five hours a day, five days a week that they are in attendance.
