About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for a highly skilled professional to join Greater Dandenong Council as Coordinator Children’s Services. This role is a strategic position leading a large team to deliver Council’s early years services, implement our Children’s Plan and further opportunities for children and their families in one of Australia’s most diverse municipalities.

Reporting to the Manager Community Wellbeing within the Community Strengthening Directorate:

  • The primary function of this role will be to provide leadership and innovative strategic direction to the Children’s Services team through the delivery of services and effective partnership with stakeholder agencies and services.
  • This position is directly responsible for resourcing including managing overall finances, collaborating with specialist services across Council, community and with Government authorities, as well as the development and interpretation of policy to ensure Children’s Services are delivered within minimised risk and within legislation.
  • To undertake planning, policy and strategic development to enhance service delivery, especially in response to State and Federal Government initiatives and funded programs.
  • To establish effective agency partnerships and networks to improve service outcomes and advocate for increased services in response to needs for children in the City of Greater Dandenong.
  • Provide advocacy to enhance service delivery for children in the City of Greater Dandenong.
  • Provide leadership guidance and support to staff to ensure events are delivered to a consistently high standard in the context of local government.
  • Ensure strategic planning of the unit in line with the Council Vision and contribute to Council’s overall broader planning.
