Reporting to the Manager People & Culture, the Risk and Assurance Coordinator will lead the Risk Management, Internal Audit, Insurance, and Business Continuity functions at Banyule City Council. This pivotal role provides expert advice to the Executive Management Team (EMT), Senior Management, and key business areas, ensuring a culture of proactive risk management and assurance across the organisation.

You’ll play a crucial role in shaping the risk management and assurance landscape of Banyule City Council, directly influencing organisational risk management and compliance. With a diverse portfolio of responsibilities, you’ll engage in a variety of tasks, from policy development to managing Council’s insurance renewal, providing you with a dynamic and fulfilling work experience.

What you will do

  • Lead Risk Management, Internal Audit, Insurance, and Business Continuity Functions: Oversee and coordinate these critical areas to ensure effective risk management and compliance.
  • Provide Expert Advice: Offer strategic guidance to the Executive Management Team (EMT), Senior Management, and key business areas on risk and assurance matters.
  • Coordinate Internal and External Relationships: Act as the central point of contact for internal audits, insurance negotiations, and consultations with insurers and claimants

What you'll bring/what we are looking for

  • Relevant tertiary qualification and/or post graduate qualification in Risk Management or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong relationships with internal clients so that Risk, Audit & Insurance advice is sought proactively.
  • Strong systems and data analysis skills.
  • Significant experience in the development and implementation of Risk. Audit, Business Continuity, and Insurance policies, systems, procedures and strategies.
  • Professional report writing and presentation skills.
  • The ability to persuade, convince and negotiate with stake holders and achieve specific and set objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team.
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship building and networking skills and the ability to build rapport and maintain effective working relations with a diverse range of people.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and collaboratively
  • Proven ability to communicate goals, set clear targets prioritise resources, and demonstrate personal accountability for performance.
