About the Role:

Council is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Safety Systems Officer to assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of our Safety Management System and related workplace health and safety initiatives. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the safety of staff and stakeholders through the effective administration of safety systems, procedures, and risk management programs.

As a member of the Wellbeing Health & Safety team, you will support the delivery of a safe working environment and assist in maintaining Council’s Safety Management System. You will also engage with various stakeholders, provide support in training, and contribute to the continuous improvement of safety practices across the organization.

Primary Objectives

• To assist in the development and implementation of Cairns Regional Councils (CRC) documented Safety Management System, Safety Compliance Software, and other systems.
• To assist in a range of workplace health and safety initiatives and programs as developed by the Safety Systems support team.
• To assist in the preparation and maintenance of Safety Management information, alerts and other risk management programs as directed by the Wellbeing Advisor.

Essential Criteria:

• Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in data management systems. Current “C” Class Driver’s Licence.
• Experience: Demonstrated experience in applying, implementing, and monitoring health and safety management systems or similar data systems.
• Skills: Well-developed understanding of Work Health & Safety legislation. High-level computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data recording.
• People Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain effective working relationships with management, employees, and stakeholders.
• Self-Motivation: Proven ability to work autonomously, plan work programs, and work effectively in a team environment.
