Supervisor Water Sewer Treatment

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Supervisor Water / Sewer Treatment to join the Engineering Department of Forbes Shire Council. 

Reporting directly to the Manager Water, this middle management leadership position is responsible for the oversight, management and compliance of the Water and Sewer Plants to ensure treated water and sewer quality compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements. The role will oversee, coordinate and report on the operation and maintenance of the water and sewer treatment plants. This role will be responsible for managing operational and capital projects at the water and sewer treatment plants ensuring current and future goals as outlined in the Community Strategic Plan are achieved.

Working both independently and as part of a hard-working team, you will work to achieve timely and appropriate outcomes on an exciting range of projects.

Essential

• DPI Water and Wastewater Treatment Course (Part 1 and 2).
• Fluoridation Certification.
• Demonstrated operational experience in Water or Wastewater Treatment plants.
• Class C (standard) Drivers License.
• WHS Construction Induction Card (White Card).

Experience

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with SCADA software system.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety and best practice principles and guidelines.
• Proven knowledge of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines (ADWG), EPA Licencing and relevant legislation and guidelines including knowledge of Forbes’ Drinking Water Management Plan (DWMP) and Health requirements.
• Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate to a diverse audience.
• Ability to review data and make decisions and assessments based on information available.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently using sound judgement or initiative as well as a team environment to effectively achieve goals and outcomes.
• Demonstrated experience in job site planning, organisational skills and contractor management.
• Demonstrated experience and understanding of Chain of Responsibility compliance on the Water industry and Local Government environment.
• Demonstrated high level communication skills in reporting potential process issues to management and relevant authorities (Dept Health, EPA, DPIE etc).
• Demonstrated experience leading a small team.
• Proven experience driving change.

Desirable

• Confined Space qualification.
• Backflow Awareness Certification and Experience.
• Chemical Certification Qualification.
• Trade Waste Experience or Training.
• Mathematics competence and the ability to correctly analyse applied formulas and data

Forbes Shire Council's selection process stages are outlined below:

• Shortlisting - The selection panel (usually 3 members) will assess all applications against the selection criteria contained in the position description. The panel will then decide which applicants best meet the criteria and will call for interview.
• Interview - You will be given at least 2-days' notice if you are required for an interview. The interview panel will consist of either 3 or 4 members, one of which will be the HR Facilitator, who will work with the panel to recommend the most suitable person for the position.
• Reference checks and other checks - Referee checks will be carried out on the recommended applicant/s. Positions that have been identified as child-related, will be required to undergo a Working with Children Check through the Office of Children's Guardian NSW
• Pre-employment Functional Assessment - The preferred applicant will be required to undergo a pre-employment functional assessment at Council’s expense. This will include a Functional Assessment, urine Drug and Alcohol Testing and a hearing screen
• Notification of the result - The successful applicant will be verbally notified as soon as possible after the interview and will receive a written letter of offer via email and in the post.
