The Cairns Regional Council is seeking a dynamic and experienced Associate Director, Engineering Services to lead a critical function within the Cairns Infrastructure & Assets Directorate. This senior leadership role will be responsible for overseeing the Major Projects, Strategic Asset Management and Planning, and Project Management Office teams, ensuring the successful delivery of capital works and strategic asset management programs. The successful candidate will work closely with elected Council members, key stakeholders, and the community, playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of Cairns' infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the Major Projects, Strategic Asset Management, and Project Management Office teams.
• Oversee the planning, design, development, and delivery of the Council's annual capital works program.
• Drive the development and implementation of asset management plans and strategies, ensuring the sustainability of Cairns’ infrastructure.
• Manage the procurement process, from contract documentation through to project delivery, ensuring best value outcomes.
• Ensure asset lifecycle costs are minimized while maintaining high service standards to the community.
• Act as a representative of the Cairns Regional Council, liaising with the Mayor, Councillors, media, and community groups on key projects.
• Foster a proactive and collaborative relationship with internal and external stakeholders to support strategic goals.

Key Requirements:

• Tertiary Qualifications in Engineering or a related field.
• Extensive senior leadership experience in a similar role, particularly within large organizations.
• Proven ability to manage significant budgets and lead large, diverse teams.
• Expertise in project management, including working with government, private sector partners, and contractors.
• A track record in strategic asset management, including the development of Asset Management Plans and management of capital works programs.
• Experience in managing relationships with stakeholders, including senior government officials and community representatives.
• Strong commitment to Workplace Health and Safety, environmental sustainability, and customer service excellence.
• A current Queensland C-class driver’s licence.
