About the role

Are you passionate about preserving Aboriginal cultural heritage? We have an exciting opportunity for a Cultural Heritage Officer to joint our team. In the role you will liaise with Council staff, relevant government departments, Local Aboriginal Land Councils and Traditional Owners to improve cultural heritage outcomes. You’ll provide advice and assist in environmental assessments, and manage processes to protect Aboriginal cultural heritage in our community. This rewarding position offers the chance to make a significant impact while working with diverse stakeholders.

Other important information 

This position is located at Council's Rushforth Road Works Depot, however, this may change should business needs identify other work locations to be more appropriate to deliver our services in the future.

Council applies the definition of Aboriginality as defined in the NSW Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983. The Act requires a person to, be of Aboriginal decent, identify as an Aboriginal person and be accepted by the Aboriginal community in which he/she lives. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants must demonstrate Aboriginality in addition to addressing the selection criterion.

Applicants can demonstrate their Aboriginality by:

  • demonstrating membership of a Local Aboriginal Land Council; or
  • presenting a certificate or paper confirming Aboriginality from a recognised Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community organisation with a common seal.

A probation period applies to this position.
