The role

MidCoast Council is seeking a senior leader to help achieve our mission “of delivering benefits for our community in a way that adds value and builds trust”.

As the Executive Manager of Public Spaces, you will play a key role in shaping the physical landscape of the MidCoast. Reporting to the Director of Liveable Communities, you will lead the Public Spaces group, overseeing a dedicated workforce of 151 that is responsible for providing vital services across various public spaces.

In this role, you'll lead a team responsible for several key functions:

  • Strategy and Projects;
  • Community Assets;
  • Open Space and Recreation;
  • Trade Services; and
  • Airport Operations

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the development and execution of strategic plans, projects and policies for the Public Spaces group, ensuring alignment with the overarching objectives of MidCoast Council.
  • Provide leadership to a dedicated workforce of 151 staff.
  • Serve as Council's advocate in various forums, adeptly representing its interests in meetings and public consultations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities for community-driven initiatives and forge partnerships that enhance the vibrancy of public spaces.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and statutory requirements, prioritising health, safety, and environmental sustainability in all initiatives.
  • Contribute as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and the Extended Management Executive (MANEX) team, setting goals, determining strategies, and building trust with stakeholders.

What you'll bring

We are looking for a passionate leader to complement our existing workforce who can demonstrate the following skills, qualifications and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Project Management, Building, Horticulture, Open Space Management or a relevant discipline.
  • Extensive industry experience at a senior level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of professional and legislative requirements within the scope of the role.
  • Proven past performance in developing and managing high-performing teams, strategic planning, stakeholder management, and communication.
  • High-level analytical and conceptual skills with the ability to positively influence outcomes.
  • Demonstrated well developed interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence and the ability to develop strong relationships across the organisation and with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong political acumen.

Salary:

  • Base Salary of $174,460 - $194,720 plus super
  • Additional Vehicle Allowance of $12,000 (in addition to base salary)
  • Leaseback vehicle whereby Council provides you with a vehicle for an annual fee calculated as 20% of the gross purchase price. This is a fully maintained vehicle for both business and full private use.

Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
