Glenelg Shire Council (GSC) is seeking a Lead Mechanic Roads and Infrastructure Maintenance for our Heywood Depot. This role involves managing, supervising, and motivating team members, coordinating daily operations of maintenance teams, and ensuring tasks are completed efficiently. Excellent communication skills and proactive problem-solving are essential. You will oversee maintenance activities to maintain high standards in infrastructure services.

What you need to Thrive

A ‘can do’ attitude with ability to manage, prioritise and adapt to a changing work environment. 

  • Trade qualification and several years mechanical experience in a range of earthmoving, agricultural, commercial and passenger vehicles.
  • Make routine decisions for the efficient and effective performance of the required duties.
  • Provide direction and leadership to apprentices, other work colleagues.
  • A demonstrated history of being a strong communicator and collaborator.
  • Able to facilitate and assist in driving and embedding a positive staff culture.
  • A high level of computer literacy with experience in Excel and Word.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new programs and technology.
  • Strong understanding of service delivery skills, including effective communication, active listening, empathy.
  • Current driver’s licence is essential.
