The Role  

Reporting to the Coordinator Strategic Planning, this positions will be a key member of the Strategic Planning Team.   

As a senior member of the team, the Principal Strategic Planner is required to provide a leadership role, to provide specialist advice to internal and external stakeholders, and to project manage and make recommendations associated with complex strategic planning projects. You will also lead and advise on planning scheme amendment implementation and processes.  

This position will require ongoing interaction with the Ballarat community, professionals within the development industry, as well as continued relationship building with internal departments and agency stakeholders.  

About You  

To be considered for this exciting opportunity, the City of Ballarat is seeking an urban planning professional with a strong strategic planning background, demonstrated technical experience, leadership and motivational skills, and well developed interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise and clearly communicate with the community, professionals and elected members.  

Key Selection Criteria  

• Qualifications and experience as listed in the Position Description.  
• Tertiary qualifications in Urban Planning, Urban Design or related discipline with experience in a senior strategic planning position, and in-depth knowledge of the Victorian planning system.  
• Proven ability to contribute to a positive work culture and work collaboratively and enthusiastically as part of a team in a sensitive and confidential environment, providing leadership and guidance to others as required.  
• Demonstrated success providing considered advice, guidance and direction on land use challenges and associated policy, including writing, reviewing and delivering integrated strategic land use planning policy and projects.  
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated success in developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships across a broad range of stakeholders, including successful delivery of consultation programs.  
• Proven project and financial management experience with the ability to manage contracts, staff and consultants, deliver projects on time and within budget and prioritise and manage a demanding day-to-day workload.
