About the role

The Program Leader Stormwater and Waterway Services plays a critical role in overseeing strategic objectives related to the waterways and stormwater systems in Hobart. This position involves managing the Stormwater and Waterways Assessments Program and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements while promoting sustainability and community engagement.

The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders and leadership within the Waterways and Services Team to achieve high-quality outcomes for the community.

Role accountabilities include: 

  • Lead strategic projects to enhance Hobart's waterways and stormwater systems.
  • Manage a dedicated team of professionals to oversee the assessments applications relating to stormwater and waterways.
  • Engage with community stakeholders to promote collaboration and service excellence.
  • Provide expert advice on legislative requirements related to stormwater management.

About you

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in civil or environmental engineering, planning, or a related field, along with experience in stormwater management. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential for mentoring team members and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Degree level qualification in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Planning, or a similar field.
  • Experience in assessing statutory permit applications related to planning, building, and plumbing.
  • Proficient knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Land Use Planning Act 1993 and the Urban Drainage Act 2013.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver exceptional customer service and maintain collaborative partnerships.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports suitable for senior management.
