About the Opportunity 

Join us as a Senior Strategic Planner, where you'll play a crucial role in developing and implementing strategic plans for Cardinia Shire, contributing to sustainable outcomes for the community in 2024 and beyond. 

We are looking for a passionate and energetic Senior Strategic Planner to play an important role in the delivery of planning services and the continued success of our team. As a Senior Strategic Planner, you will help to deliver positive planning outcomes across a large and unique landscape that includes precinct structure plans, activity centres, state-significant agricultural and industrial land, and suburbs and townships with unique character and values.  

Importantly, you will work within a supportive and collaborative team environment where your passion for achieving great planning outcomes, business improvements and personal development is encouraged and fostered. 

You will make an impact by delivering: 

  • Leading the development and implementation of an integrated strategic planning framework.
  • Managing a diverse caseload of planning scheme amendments, including large-scale and complex proposals.
  • Preparing submissions and representing Council at Planning Panels or Standing Advisory Committee’s and public forums
  • Undertaking research and developing strategic policies that synthesise the views, visions and needs of the community and other key stakeholders and incorporate them into balanced and cohesive strategic policies and plans to position Cardinia to meet the challenges of the future.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders and government agencies.
  • Assisting with the implementation of precinct structure plans, structure plan and policies within growth areas, townships and rural areas.
  • Mentoring and guiding staff members to ensure the continued achievement of high-quality outcomes and personal development.

To be successful in this role, you will have the following: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in planning or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • A sound knowledge and understanding of strategic planning and planning scheme amendment processes, including planning-related legislation.
  • Ability to research and analyse information and prepare concise reports and recommendations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including report writing and presentation abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and handle enquiries effectively.
  • A current Victorian Driver's License.
