About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join our Accounting Services Team.  In this role you will provide financial accounting services as required by Council and external organisations and ensure the integrity of data within Council’s financial information system. The successful applicant will need to demonstrate their competency for the position by meeting the following essential criteria:

  • Degree qualifications in Accounting.
  • Experience working in an accounting environment
  • An understanding of legislation and it’s implications to Council with a focus on issues such as - Goods and Services Tax (GST), Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT), Local Government Act, Code of Accounting Practice, and other relevant legislation.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain complex spreadsheets and databases.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and ability to use, Corporate Information Systems and other computer applications to meet business needs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the relationships between various accounting sub-modules.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to apply accounting principles
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (written & oral) with all levels in the organisation on all matters relevant to the position.
