POSITION PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE
To provide plant operation and general maintenance services to Blue Mountains City
Council’s Open Space Operations area.
RELATIONSHIPS

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Operate small/large plant and equipment including mowers, chainsaws, brushcutters
to perform maintenance tasks
• Provide quality service delivery in sporting grounds, parks, open spaces for defined
operations and maintenance activities and schedules
• Undertake routine maintenance works as directed
• Input into the business and asset planning process for park, open space, sporting
facilities and reserves development works including materials sourcing and time
scheduling of works.
• Assist with the identification of relevant plant and equipment requirements necessary
to perform responsibilities
• Comply with approved policies, procedures and guidelines

• Maximize productivity through current industry best practices
• Ensure that all vehicles, plant and equipment are maintained in good working condition
and in a clean and tidy condition and all faults/damaged to be reported appropriately
and immediately
• Provide a positive image and service in a customer focused manner
• Monitor condition of playing surfaces, open space and park facilities to ensure
Council’s assets are maintained in safe, functional order.
• Undertake ongoing development and training considered appropriate and necessary
for the position by the Coordinator, Manager or Organisation including proposed
technology changes.
• Other duties as specified by the Coordinator, Program Leader or Manager.

Workplace Health & Safety
Ensure compliance with WHS obligations and responsibilities as outlined in Councils
policies and procedures and under the relevant WHS legislation. These include but are
not limited to: identifying potentially unsafe situations or work practices and notifying your
Supervisor or Manager (or the Health, Safety Manager/Area Safety Representative);

experience, or have not received appropriate instructions and training or where the correct

Compliance & Risk
You are responsible for ensuring that you conduct your risk management responsibilities
as described in council's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Policy and Procedure (the
ERM Framework) with the goal of ensuring that potential issues are identified and reported
in a timely manner. In undertaking your work should you identify contaminated land or

potentially contaminated land, including but not limited to asbestos contamination you are
required to notify your supervisor immediately.
COMMUNICATION
The job requires written communication skills which enable the incumbent to complete
standard forms. The incumbent is expected to co-operate with co-workers in creating
smooth workflow, including assisting with each other's work when necessary.
This job requires communication skills which enable the job holder to exchange and
explain information with other Council employees and with members of the public.
JUDGEMENT & PROBLEM SOLVING
• Remedy the day to day problems that arise with the allocation of work and liaise with
supervisor as required.
• Work independently and to make decisions on a daily basis within the area of
professional expertise and in accordance with approved performance plan, Council
policies and strategies.
• In accordance with Council policies and procedures, ability to problem solving on day-
to-day issues. Direction should be sought on wider issues.
AUTHORITY
The position has no delegations. The position makes minor decisions and any decisions
requiring investigation or consultation are referred to the supervisor.
SKILL, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS & BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES
ESSENTIAL
• Demonstrated experience in maintenance and operations of recreational open spaces
and sportsground
• Demonstrated experience in the operation and maintenance of plant and equipment
used for sportsgrounds, parks, and open spaces
• Construction Induction Certificate
• Class MR Drivers Licence
• Proven ability to work automously and show initiative to provide quality service delivery
outcomes
• Ability to work within flexible starting and finishing times and to adapt to an ever-
changing work environment.
• Knowledge of and commitment to Workplace Health and Safety requirements and
Equal Employment Opportunities.
DESIRABLE
• Traffic Controllers Certification
• Previous experience in irrigation systems, maintenance and repairs
• Chainsaw Certification Level 1
