The Opportunity 

We are looking for a proactive and experienced Supervisor – Waste & Organics Operator to oversee the daily operations of our Bowser East Organics Facility. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about waste management, sustainability, and ensuring the smooth operation of an organics facility. You will play a key role in managing a small team, ensuring compliance with EPA guidelines, and maintaining a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operation.

Key Responsibilities: 

As the Supervisor – Waste & Organics Operator, your responsibilities will include:

  • Facility Operations: Ensure the organics facility is fully operational during advertised hours and in emergencies, with all equipment and operations running smoothly.
  • Team Leadership: Provide direction and supervision to Waste & Organics Operators, ensuring efficient and safe operations across the site.
  • Contamination Removal: Proactively sort organics, removing contaminants to ensure the highest-quality compost.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Ensure all activities adhere to EPA guidelines and report on operational progress as required.
  • Maintenance: Oversee daily pre-start checks, perform minor repairs, and escalate any major repairs to the Team Leader.
  • Site Cleanliness and Safety: Maintain a clean, safe, and accessible site, ensuring that all internal roads and facilities are up to standard.
  • Customer Interaction: Provide excellent customer service, assisting contractors and the public while ensuring compliance with facility guidelines.

What we are looking for

To thrive in this role, you will have:

  • Experience & Knowledge: A strong understanding of waste management practices and organics operations. Previous experience working with EPA licence conditions is desirable, and experience operating mechanical plant such as loaders and earthmoving equipment is a must.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to supervise and motivate a team, ensuring high performance and safe working conditions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to liaise effectively with customers and contractors.
  • Problem-Solving & Initiative: Proactive, with the ability to manage operations independently and resolve challenges as they arise.
  • Licensing & Qualifications: A current Heavy Rigid Driver’s Licence, with loader, skid steer, and compactor licences preferred. Knowledge of Microsoft applications and basic computer skills are also required.
