The Council has a new state of the art Civic and Community Enterprise Centre as its regional office and a growing tourism industry which offers a wide choice of attractions and activities including the $12millon mineral-rich artesian Cunnamulla Hot Springs, Cunnamulla Fella and Historical Railway.

Located in Southwest Queensland, the Paroo Shire Council covers an area of 47,623 square kilometres with Cunnamulla being the hub of the Shire incorporating four beautiful rural towns, Cunnamulla, Yowah, Eulo and Wyandra and a growing tourism industry. Its unique name Cunnamulla, means ‘long stretch of water’, as the town sits on the edge of the picturesque Warrego River, a popular spot for boating, water sports, hot springs and fishing.

About the Position

You will be responsible for managing the Wastewater Treatment Plant and for the production, delivery and storage of water to Australian Drinking Water Guidelines (ADWG) standards, operating within Council’s Drinking Water Quality Management and Recycled Water Management Plans. This will include using your analytical skills and wastewater treatment plant knowledge to report on the treatment plants performance ensuring the facilities and plant used, in the production of safe and acceptable water supply and wastewater, is being discharged in compliance with requirements.

You will be part of a team where you will be flexible and adaptable, operating and maintaining the Water and Wastewater Treatments Plants and managing the reticulation and maintenance operations. Your technical advice and knowledge of all things water will not go unnoticed.

About You

You will have a strong practical approach as you manage our wastewater treatments plant, do on-site testing, maintain and calibrate field equipment and develop job safety analyses for the preparation of our operation and maintenance manuals. You will be able to respond quickly to challenges by being flexible and adaptable and enjoy providing solutions to the team as you assist in building our strong workplace culture driving Council’s performance and service delivery.

About Your Experience

You will have a Certificate III in Water Industry Operations or be excited by the opportunity and committed, to acquire the qualification, as you step into a role that you know your community can’t do without. You will not be afraid of needles when you have your immunisation shots for Hepatitis A & B and the necessary Tetanus shot.

It would be great if you had an Agricultural Chemical Distribution Commercial Operators Licence, a First Aid and Confined Space Entry Certificate, however this is not essential, although you will need a current ‘C’ Class Queensland Drivers Licence as an essential requirement for this position.
